“Sonhos” traditional recipe with Honey topping
The Portuguese culture is filled with traditional flavours and recipes, many of them associated with customs and commemorative dates. Sonhos, a very popular delicacy, especially on Christmas, is one of those sweets that make us travel back in time to Grandma's kitchen. However, not only at parties should be appreciated, with the meia.dúzia® Portuguese honeys can top the Sonhos for a more original flavours experience, blending the traditional with the contemporary. Know how to prepare:
400 ml of water
2 tablespoons of sugar
1 lemon peel
1 stick of cinnamon
1 pinch of salt
250g of wheat flour (with yeast)
Sunflower oil (for frying)
Rosemary Honey with Apple and Cinnamon (suggestion)
In a saucepan place the boiling water together with the salt, cinnamon, lemon peel and sugar.
When it boils, remove the cinnamon and lemon peel and add the flour.
Stir well until the dough begins to peel off the pan.
Remove to a bowl and add the beaten eggs, 1 to 1, stirring with your hands or with an electric mixer until forming a light and elastic dough.
Fill half fryer with sunflower oil and place to heat on medium heat.
Add the dream oil balls (about 1 tablespoon) to the hot oil and fry until it rises to double the volume.
Remove onto a platter with absorbent paper and let it cool slightly.
Top the Sonhos with Rosemary Honey with Apple and Cinnamon, to taste.
